“I saw consumers being cheated with adulterated oil — and I knew I could bring them the real thing.”

During my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posting between November 2019 and October 2020 in Hadejia Local Government Area, Jigawa State, I closely observed local markets and discovered a troubling reality — much of the palm oil available was adulterated using a substance locally known as “JAWA”, used to increase volume at the expense of quality and consumer health.

Coming from Ondo State, where access to fresh, high-quality palm oil is abundant, I immediately recognised the gap — and the opportunity to make a difference. I began supplying authentic, unadulterated palm oil directly from the South to the North, starting with colleagues at Government Unity Secondary School in Hadejia.

Even after completing NYSC, the demand did not stop. While pursuing my Master's degree at FUNAAB in Abeokuta, I continued supplying to customers in Northern Nigeria and within Ogun State — further validating market demand.

The Journey So Far

Nov 2019

NYSC Posting — Jigawa State

Posted to Hadejia LGA, Jigawa State. First-hand observation of adulterated palm oil in Northern Nigerian markets — the moment that sparked the vision.

Jan 2020

GB Connex Founded

Began supplying authentic palm oil from Ondo State to colleagues and staff at Government Unity Secondary School in Hadejia. Demand grew quickly across multiple LGAs in Jigawa State.

2020–2022

Expansion to Ogun State (FUNAAB)

While studying at FUNAAB in Abeokuta, continued Northern supply operations while building new customer base in Ogun State — proving cross-regional demand for quality palm oil.

2022–Present

Ogbomoso Hub & Structured Operations

Established a base in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. Developed a structured sourcing system — purchasing directly from rural processors in Ondo State with advance funding. Now distributing across Jigawa, Ogun, Plateau, Lagos, Oyo, and Ondo States with a team of 9 staff.

Future

Vision: Full Value Chain Integration

Scale from trading into a fully integrated agribusiness with investments in large-scale farming and processing facilities — strengthening quality, sustainability, and impact across the entire value chain.
